Performs a variety of routine and specialized medical laboratory diagnostic tests, procedures, experiments and analyses on blood and body fluid specimens for the purpose of providing laboratory data for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Reports directly to technical section supervisor(s). Education required is four years of formal training or education beyond high school (e.g., Bachelor's Degree). Certification required to obtain: MLS, MT, or MLT (ASCP) or eligible, with certification to be completed within 1 year of hire. No experience required. Responsibilities include performing, interpreting, documenting, and reporting clinical laboratory diagnostic assays; performing quality control procedures; checking, calibrating and maintaining equipment; maintaining reagent supplies; maintaining a clean and orderly laboratory environment; performing technical, procedural and administrative problem solving; acting as a technical resource and providing instruction; assisting in evaluation and installation of new procedures and instrumentation; writing technical procedures; performing supervisory responsibilities in absence of section supervisor; training and orienting staff and students; maintaining technical ability in multiple technical areas; performing special projects and other duties; demonstrating compliance with corporate and departmental requirements. Physical demands include lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally, fine motor skills, hearing, bending, repetitive motion, reaching, sitting, smelling, speaking, squatting, standing, walking, and occasional kneeling. Vision requirements include color vision, depth perception, far and near vision, and peripheral vision. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, electrical hazards, mechanical parts, toxic chemicals, airborne contaminants, and pathogens. Noise level usually moderate.
