Head Coach – Cross Country/Track & Field

Athletics

St. Edward's University of Austin, Texas invites applications for the position of Head Coach – Cross Country/Track & Field. This position will assist the university in meeting the goals and mission of the athletic department through professional management of the men's and women's cross country/track & field programs. The goals are to 1) provide every opportunity for the men's and women's cross country/track & field programs to compete for a Lone Star Conference Championship and reach the NCAA tournament each year while maintaining a focus on the student-athlete experience and welfare, 2) operate with quality and integrity in the athletic department's role as a focal point for school identity and spirit, 3) support the community through public service, 4) provide opportunities and support for student-athletes to achieve the highest levels of academic and athletic performance, and 5) provide programming and resources that help prepare student-athletes with skills for life.

For consideration, the qualifications for this position include:

  • Baccalaureate degree is required
  • A minimum of five years of an intercollegiate cross country/track & field coach experience.
  • Master's degree is required.
  • A minimum of three years head coaching experience of an intercollegiate cross country/track & field programs.
  • Ability to demonstrate a strategic vision for the day-to-day operations of the cross country/track & field programs which compliments the institutions mission.
  • Demonstrated success fundraising to help meet budgetary needs of collegiate cross country/track & field programs.

Essential Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide vision and leadership in the administration of competitive and inclusive Division II Men's and Women's Cross Country/Track & Field programs within the rules, guidelines and principles of the university, Lone Star Conference and NCAA.
    • Prepare, schedule and organize daily practice sessions, preparation for competition and off-season training
    • Oversee the holistic development and monitor well-being of the student-athletes
    • In conjunction with Athletics administration, schedule competitions appropriate for team and budget, with respect to academic schedule
    • Create and sustain an atmosphere that promotes academic and personal growth of student-athletes
    • Monitor the academic progress and insure the ongoing eligibility of student-athletes to mee standards for graduation
  • Create and execute a comprehensive recruiting/retention program to attract and retain a diverse and talented pool of prospective student-athletes.
  • Ensure that the cross country/track & field programs meet annual squad size requirements.
  • Responsibly expend allocated budget and ensure that the budget balances each fiscal year.
  • Participate in fundraising initiatives for the Athletic Department as well as the cross country/track & field programs to ensure that program fundraising goals are being met.
  • Consistently and frequently prioritize professional development for personal growth as well as assistant coaches.
  • Execute all responsibilities as head coach in a manner that reflects an ongoing commitment to the excellence, integrity and success of the men's and women's cross country/track & field programs, Athletics Department, and St. Edward's University.
  • Engage in community outreach and alumni engagement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Athletics and/or the Assistant AD for Internal Operations.
