Job Details Job Location Conner Prairie Museum - Fishers, IN Position Type Full Time Education Level 2 Year Degree Travel Percentage Negligible Job Shift Day Job Category Design Description Principal Function: The Exhibits Designer creates visual and tactile displays for the museum exhibit areas, combining creativity with an understanding of spatial design and storytelling. The Designer will translate ideas and narratives into immersive and engaging environments for museum guests. The Designer will be part of a dynamic and highly collaborative exhibit team and work with other stakeholders as part of a cross-departmental project team. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible for concept and execution of graphic design ranging from wall wraps to exhibit panels, tombstones and other exhibit design needs. Creates layouts and prototypes selecting materials and integrating multimedia elements to create compelling narratives. Actively participates in brainstorming on exhibit concepts. Collaborates with curators, fabricators and other key staff to ensure exhibit meets the project's goals. Possesses ability to address design challenges and technical issues. Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign. Additional Skills: Excellent illustration skills with digital and/or analog tools. Ability to work independently and collaboratively on projects. Displays a high level of professionalism. Affinity for museum work. Ability to create 2-D and 3-D renderings, floor plans and visual representations of exhibits. Working knowledge of large format printing and print design required. Extreme attention to detail, clean/finished designs and project timelines. Ability to project manage work to meet established deadlines. High level proficiency in prepping files for print and press. Excellent illustration skills in both digital and analog. Knowledge and mastery of typography, kerning and leading. Understanding of accessible design creation. Basic knowledge of SketchUp or other CAD 3D modeling software. Ability to create dynamic and emotive design that moves visitors and brings the story to life. Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Education and/or Experience: Associate's Degree required, Bachelor's desired in art and/or design-related fields. Minimum of three (3) years related experience. Possesses a professional portfolio displaying past work. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Conner Prairie is generally open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
